Have you ever wondered how your fruits and vegetables get to Hannaford Supermarket?
It’s a fun journey that starts at a farm (maybe even one not too far from you!). We’re super lucky that farmers know how to grow a lot of fruits and vegetables so that we always have plenty for you to pick from when you shop at your local Hannaford Supermarket. Farmers are amazing! They know how to care for their land, protect their soil and grow delicious fruits and vegetables for us to enjoy.
Did you know that we can help them?
When we also protect our environment by recycling more, wasting less, composting and doing other things to keep our land healthy and safe, we’re helping our farmers do their job.
You can help them when you shop at Hannaford too!
Maybe you’ve noticed that the fruits and vegetables available at the market change throughout the year? This is because, unlike your boxes of noodles or favorite snacks, your fruits and vegetables only grow at certain times of the year. You might already know this if you have a garden in your own backyard.
When we pick produce that matches the season, we’re supporting farmers who grow those fruits and vegetables. So, the next time you’re at the market, if you don’t see your favorite berries or other fruit, don’t worry! They’ll be back when the season changes. In the meantime, try something new. Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite fruit or vegetable.
Are you wondering how fruits and vegetables go from the farm to Hannaford Supermarket?
There are many people that make this possible – we’re lucky to have them! It all starts with the farmers and their helpers making sure fruits and vegetables are picked at the perfect time. Then it’s boxed and ready to ship, usually in a big truck.
The boxes arrive at Hannaford Supermarket very early in the morning (yup, while you’re still sleeping, we’re hard at work!). Then your Hannaford associates carefully put the produce out so that you can pick the perfect fruit and vegetables.
We hope you visit to buy fresh fruits and veggies right away. If not, we donate it to a local food pantry or sometimes we send it back to farmers so that they can feed it to their animals. How cool is that? It’s like a full circle where the farmers support our store and then we support them right back!
